The Backstory
The existing account history interface was outdated and cluttered, making it difficult for users to extract necessary information, especially for tax purposes. With increasing user requests for a more intuitive design, it became imperative to revamp this feature promptly.
The Problem
Key challenges included:
Time Sensitivity: The feature needed to be updated quickly to meet growing user demands.
Clarity and Usability: The interface had to be de-cluttered to provide a clear overview of account history.
Future Flexibility: The design needed to be adaptable for integration into the upcoming platform overhaul.
Key Features & Design Decisions
Implemented a Dialog Interface: This approach allowed us to bypass the limitations of the current platform state without compromising user experience.
Established a Parent-Child Hierarchy: Nested relevant fields under corresponding parent elements to reduce initial cognitive load and enhance clarity.
Added a Floating Element: On mobile devices, a tab-specific floating element was introduced to display lifetime totals for key values such as dividends, deposits, and withdrawals.
The Process
Rapid Prototyping: Quickly developed prototypes to test the dialog interface and hierarchical structure.
User Testing: Gathered feedback to ensure the new design met user needs for clarity and ease of use.
Iterative Refinement: Made adjustments based on feedback, cutting out anything unnecessary.
Final Thoughts
Redesigning Trading212's Account History was a lesson in balancing clarity, usability, and speed of execution. By simplifying the structure and implementing intuitive design choices, we created an efficient, user-friendly solution that met immediate needs while setting the stage for future improvements.
